The previous owner loved and cared for this great automobile for over 60 years. It was reportedly given to him as a birthday gift by the original owner his Grandfather in 1951. His Great Grandfather was James H. Whiting. Mr. Whiting was President of the Flint Wagon Works. In the early 1900’s with the Automobile becoming increasingly popular; Mr. Whiting purchased a failing stationary engine company from Detroit. He also hired the companies’ chief engineer and former owner to work for him. The Engineers name was David Dunbar Buick. Mr. Whiting told Mr. Buick when you can build an automobile that can drive from Flint to Detroit and back in a day, we will go into the Automobile business. Mr. Buick did just that. Now that Mr. Whiting had a great machine to sell he needed a great salesman. He hired the best salesman in Flint an ambitious man by the name of William Crapo Durant. Mr. Whiting had to convince Mr. Durant to leave the buggy business for the newfangled automobile. This was a process that took several weeks. Within a few short years Mr. Durant would buy the Buick Motor Company from Mr. Whiting and grow the company into General Motors.
